Manchester City starts to remove the roof of the North Stand this week, and construction is expected to be completed in the middle of the new season

June 21, the Manchester Evening News published an article reporting on the construction of Manchester City's home court.

The roof of Manchester City's North Stands will begin to be demolished this week, and the stadium expansion will continue to be implemented. Construction has been ongoing throughout the summer, with the goal of reopening with new capacity later in the 2025-26 season.

As part of a major renovation plan, Manchester City is increasing home capacity, aiming to build the stadium into a comprehensive venue throughout the year. With the full operation of the Co-OpLive Performing Arts Center behind the North Stand, the newly built fan park, hotels, museums and club shops will all be part of the upgrade of the Etihad Stadium facilities.

But the fans are still concerned about the main body of the stadium. After the South Stand, the North Stand will also add a new floor of the stadium. The project has been underway since its launch in 2023, and the key task this summer is to complete roof removal and turf repaving before the start of the new season. The drone footage taken by CPOverview this week shows that the roof removal project has been launched as planned to ensure that Guardiola and the players are not affected in the new season. Manchester City will play away in the first round of the new season, but will usher in home games against Tottenham the next week, and will also face Manchester United in September and start the Champions League.

Sisk project director Ian Kasher revealed to Architecture News last month: "The task is quite arduous in the next few weeks. The old roof needs to be removed within four weeks before the new roof is installed, and the cladding and lighting system will be added. The site maintenance team needs to repaint the turf around, so we only have six weeks to remove the existing roof, and the site team will take over the project. We also reserve a week of buffering to deal with the bad weather. The roof will adopt an alternating unit in situ demolition scheme, retaining six support units weighing up to 45 tons, which will be lifted and removed by rotating down to the height of the site."

North stands project is expected to be completed in the mid-2025-26 season, and the new top stands will need to be tested before fully opening. The club has not announced a ticketing plan for new seats, but is expected to achieve a total capacity of 61,000 by the end of the season.

fans look forward to the club making full use of the new stands layout, which will be the last major transformation opportunity in the next few decades and will permanently change the fans' game-day experience.
