reported on May 19 that in the 37th round of Serie A, Roma defeated Milan 3-1 at home. Roma defender Mancini attended the post-match press conference.
What do you think about the competition for Champions League qualifications?
As I have said many times, the path we have gone through is unique. We had only 23 points at the time, that was too few, but we told ourselves to think about it one game after another, and we tried to do it. Coach Ranieri is very good at helping us recover, and in the final stages of the season, when you keep winning and unbeaten for 19 consecutive rounds, you look at the standings and say to yourself “Let’s try”. It's a very unique experience to be able to get so close to this goal with 90 minutes left in the season.
Do you know who the new coach of Rome will be? How much impact has Coach Ranieri brought?
I don't know who the new coach is, but our team has always been very united. We have experienced three coaches this season, and everyone knows our situation at that time, but the team is always united. Coach Ranieri discovered a lost team and he devoted a lot of energy to training to help us get calm. At first we felt uncomfortable training at Trigoria base, but he brought peace, even after losing to Naples and drawing with Tottenham. Sometimes, despite losing, your performance in the game will make you understand where you are and we know yourself better. He made us a real big family and he left a more united team.
Your position has changed from right center back to center back, what impact does this have on you?
Stability has always been my strength, and I have made great progress in discipline, and I can continue to improve because sometimes I burst out for 2 or 3 seconds. As for the position on the court, I used to have to catch up with opponents who were much faster than me, which made me a little uncomfortable. As a central defender, I have to focus and observe my teammates at all times. This change in position makes me feel more responsible.
Can you still return to the Italian national team? The national team is sacred to me, and if I am very happy to get the church, I will rush to the national team as soon as possible. If I were not called up, I would be the first person to cheer for the national team. We must accept the choice of the head coach.
S-Jimenez was sent off for elbowing you in the 21st minute for a red card
He elbowed me in the chest, which is indeed a red card because it is an act that is not in line with sportsmanship. Coach Ranieri will retire after the end of this season. What impression does he leave as a coach on you?
First of all, he tells the truth and is very frank. He won't be too excited when things go well, and he keeps calm when things are not going well. He found the right balance, carrots and sticks. He put the team in charge and worked hard with the highest intensity. At the same time he keeps us calm and always tells us to always give our all, he always says “I want the best from you.” He came to Rome when he needed him the most, and we must thank him. Fans have always supported us and brought us extra motivation. Rome is really powerful when everything is united.
