Tottenham official: Captain Romero completes contract renewal; it is reported that the new contract expires in 2029

Hupu August 18th Spurs is honored to announce that Christian Romero has signed a new long-term contract with the club.

The Argentine international joined the club on loan from Serie A team Atalanta for one season in August 2021 and officially signed the contract the following year.

Earlier this month, Thomas Frank appointed the 27-year-old as captain before the start of the European Super Cup. So far, he has made 126 appearances for the club and scored 8 goals.

Christian joined as the "Best Defender" in Serie A in 2020/21 and helped us return to the Champions League in his first season with the club, and we performed well in the second half of the season.

As a strong central defender, he was appointed as the club's deputy captain along with James Madison in August 2023. This season, he has started 33 times in the Premier League, scoring 5 goals, and performed well. He is also shortlisted for the Premier League Player of the Month in October 2023.

Last season, he was captained in the last four games of the UEFA Cup, playing a crucial role in the team's victory in the UEFA Cup and was awarded the Player of the Season.

He was named the best player in the final and was selected for the 2024/25 Europa League season with his teammates Gullermo Vicario, Pedro Polo and Dominic Solank.

At the national team level, he made his first appearance for the Argentine national team in the World Cup qualifiers against Chile in June 2021. He has made 44 appearances for the Argentine national team and scored 3 goals.

Christian has achieved great success with Argentina, helping his national team win the 2021 and 2024 Copa America and the most notable 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
