Crystal Palace admits need to sell Zhongwei

Crystal Palace Club Chairman Steve Parish recently confirmed that the team is considering selling captain Mark Gey in this summer transfer window to avoid losing both money and wealth after the contract expires next year.

According to the BBC, England international Guy, 25, has entered the last year of his contract, but has not reached a contract renewal agreement with Crystal Palace so far. It is reported that Gee may even choose to stay in the team until the summer of 2026, when he leaves the team as a free agent. This prospect has deeply worried the club's senior management.

Parrish admitted: "We have to do this, and it is obvious. Letting a player of such a high level leave for free is really a big problem for us." He made it clear that the club will prioritize selling Gei this summer to recover some of the transfer fees.

In the January transfer window this year, Newcastle had repeatedly offered £65 million to buy Gey, but they were rejected by Crystal Palace. At that time, the club still hoped that the core central defender could renew his contract and stay in the team. However, as negotiations hit a deadlock, Crystal Palace's attitude has loosened.

Currently, Liverpool has shown strong interest in Guy. Although the Reds have invested about £270 million in signings this summer, they have also recovered about £170 million by selling players, and their financial situation is relatively healthy. It is reported that Crystal Palace hopes to price Guy about £40 million, while Liverpool hopes to lower the transfer fee.

However, considering that Guy has only one year left in his contract and that he is eager to join a giant with championship strength to improve his career, Liverpool is considered its most likely next home. Once the two parties reach an agreement on the transfer fee, the deal is almost a foregone conclusion.

It can be foreseen that it may only be a matter of time before Gee joins Liverpool. If the English central defender can transfer to Anfield smoothly, it will greatly enhance the strength of the Reds' defense and add an important weight to the team's championship journey in the new season.
