Encountering racial discrimination by fans at the scene + booing by the whole audience, Schalke players called the police after the game

August 19th, in the first round of the German Cup, Schalke defeated the regional league team Leipzig Locomotive 1-0 away 04. Schalke player Ajay said after the game that he had been racially discriminated against by fans on the scene.

This incident happened in the 13th minute of the game, when Ajay was preparing to throw the ball out of the box, suddenly, he interrupted his movement and walked towards the lineman. The referee then summoned the captains of both sides to discuss. He also communicated with security personnel. Immediately afterwards, the stadium broadcast called for a stop to “discriminatory shouts.” The game resumed after three minutes of interruption.

However, some home spectators did not show understanding, but booed Ajay every time he touched the ball.

Anti-Ajay described: "I heard bad words. These are racist abuses, and this kind of thing should never appear here at any time. Someone called me 'damn nigger'." He also said that he had reported the case to the police and the local police had launched an investigation.

Schalke Director Bowman issued a statement on behalf of the board of directors, saying: "First of all, I feel very sad that Christopher has to hear these words. We condemn this behavior strongestly and hope to identify the perpetrators. Schalke 04 fans and members have made it clear and unambiguously committed in our charter and mission statement against discrimination and racism, and as clubs and boards, we represent these values without compromise. We stand firmly on Christopher's side."
