Frank: In fact, I was very good at set pieces in the Bees. Strong teams have learned from us.

Hupu, October 28th: Tottenham head coach Frank attended the pre-match press conference against Newcastle in the League Cup.

Could you please tell me the latest situation of Solanke, Udoji and Romero?

Yes. No, the players who played yesterday performed well. Solanke will continue to recover and we will take it step by step.

Both Udoji and Romero trained on the field today, so we took three steps forward.

Achieved a wonderful victory yesterday, ranking first in the league in away record. Why do you think away games are so different from home games this season? Because your away performance has been perfect, are you still wondering how to play at home this season?

Sometimes, this is still a relatively small sample. Hopefully, by the end of the year, the numbers on the road and at home will be great. This is a new team, but the team still needs to find a fit with each other.

In my opinion, with our current squad, I think we still have nine Premier League games left. I can't remember exactly, 3 games, 12 games, or 14 games in total. We had a poor performance against Bournemouth, a second half against Wolves and a second half against Monaco, so I think we're improving overall.

The former manager said he was told the club needed to win a trophy. Obviously, they won a trophy at the end of last season. The away game against Newcastle is obviously a very difficult game. But when you join the club, you talk about winning trophies, winning games. Have these been discussed?

I think it's obvious that we play this sport because we love it. If you're at a club like Tottenham Hotspur, we'll do everything we can to win. I've said from the beginning that I want to be able to compete in every event.

We have a chance to play in this tournament, not tomorrow, but Wednesday, against a very strong team. The defending champion performed very well and it was very difficult to play in such an environment. But we will go all out to win and keep making progress.

Of course, Wednesday's game is the focus, but there is another important game in November, and that is the North London Derby. Their set pieces are also good. On Super Sunday they said there might be a set-piece coaching camera for your bench and Arsenal's bench.

Would you like to talk about the time you spent at the club on set pieces?

Obviously, considering yesterday's goal and the change in the Premier League's playing style, the set-piece training effect is very good.

So, what do you think about set pieces, or for us? Because I know Andreas is an important part of your coaching staff.

Yes, Andreas did a great job. The players also performed well. They are very united.

They are really dedicated. For me, if we want to build a top team, I think we need to strive for excellence in every phase of the game. But set pieces, obviously, I think a third of all goals, isn't it, are probably set pieces.

So, don’t waste time on one thing alone, but focus on the details, do what you need to do, and build a team that can both defend and attack. I think this is a big advantage. I'm really happy with where we're at at set pieces.

As far as the set pieces you just mentioned, I feel like the football world is going through some adjustments, from everyone just wanting to attack from the back and play perfect football, to now, maybe going back 15 or 20 years ago, long balls, overhead corners, more direct football, etc., right?

I haven’t watched every game, every league, or at least only the five major leagues. If you only focus on the Premier League, then you can say my feeling, maybe this feeling is also a data. We have scored more goals from set pieces so far this season.

But many teams are definitely throwing more long balls overall. So this is definitely a clear example of focusing more on set pieces. I think every coach or club wants to have good results and the key is to find the small gaps.

I think the success we had at Brentford was probably less dramatic because it was a smaller club at the time, and Arsenal learned from that.

I think Liverpool two years ago was also very good. So the top clubs also took a page from that and thought, if we want to be competitive or go to the next level, we might need to do that.

So I think that might be the reason.

But, is it more appropriate for a team to play like this? Because if you attack from the back and you have to break through the opponent's defense, isn't it easier to start from the opponent's half and you can play a long pass or a corner kick?

I think, as I said before, you need to be great at every stage. For example, I thought we did a really good job in the backcourt in the first half yesterday. Sometimes you also need to control the ball in midfield.

It all depends on your strategy and style. But a big part of it definitely requires being good at set pieces as well.
