Italian media: Court ruled Mario s transfer case, Inter Milan does not need to pay compensation to Portugal Sports

May 3 According to the Italian fcinter1908 website citing the report of "Milan Sports", the Lausanne Sports Court (TAS) ruled on May 2, 2025 that Inter Milan did not need to pay any compensation to the Portuguese Sports Club for Joao Mario's transfer case.

Portugal Sports claimed that there was a restriction clause in Mario's contract when he transferred to Inter Milan in 2016, requiring Inter Milan to pay 30 million euros to Portugal Sports if he sells Mario to another Portuguese club in the future. Mario first terminated his contract with Inter Milan in the summer of 2021, and then he joined Benfica as a free agent. In October of the same year, Portuguese Sports applied to FIFA, requiring Inter Milan to implement the above 30 million euros clause. FIFA rejected the application in its ruling on July 10, 2023, after which Portugal Sports appealed in September 2023, resulting in the ruling of the Lausanne Sports Arbitration Tribunal on May 2, 2025.

According to the information obtained by the Milan Sports Daily, the possibility of two clubs, Inter Milan and Portuguese Sports, continue to sue in this case is very small.
