Liverpool and government police hospital jointly call on fans to pay attention to fireworks safety during the championship parade
According to the official website of Liverpool, the club, together with the local government, the police and the children's hospital, jointly called on fans to pay attention to safety during the celebration parade, especially to protect children from fireworks. Liverpool's Premier League Championship Parade will be held on May 26, starting at 2:30 pm, with the same route as the 2022 championship parade. The use of fireworks (including signal flares, smoke bombs and fireworks) has increased recently. Nearly 50 burns have occurred outside Anfield after the Reds locked in their 20th league title, with the youngest victim being only three years old. Aldhai Children's Hospital has had to treat several children injured by fireworks in its emergency department, including burns caused by direct contact with the fireworks and burns on the face or scalp caused by the drop of fireworks. The hospital's chief nurse Nathan Asker said: "We know Monday will be a wonderful day for all Liverpool fans, but we have seen many children and teenagers who need hospitalization for use of fireworks over the past few years. Fireworks can cause serious injuries, including severe burns, respiratory problems and damage to the lungs, ears and eyes. Burns are both painful and disturbing for children because they cannot recognize these dangers. We implored all those attending the event to enjoy the day safely." At the 2022 Liverpool Victory Parade, St. John's Ambulance recorded 84 injuries, many of which were related to burns caused by fireworks, with a total of 12 people hospitalized. The temperature of fireworks is extremely high when burning, usually between 700 and 2500 degrees Celsius. Not only will direct contact cause burns, but it will also cause damage at close range. In particular, signal flares may stick to the skin when burned. In addition to high temperatures, fireworks can produce a lot of smoke, which may aggravate existing respiratory illnesses and stimulate the eyes. In addition, pyrotechnic equipment usually has a ‘safe distance’ message that clearly states that it should not be used in crowded places or near others. Some fans are also worried that the smoke from hand-held fireworks will affect people's sight, which will affect their enjoyment of watching the players in the parade. Chris Barnes, the commander of the parade, said: "We want people of all ages to enjoy the victory parade of Liverpool Football Club in safe and comfortable. Although we understand that fans will be excited and happy that day, we must take into account everyone present. We hope that the parade will be memorable for the right reasons, so we work with Liverpool Football Club, Liverpool City Council and Alderhai Hospital to emphasize the dangers of pyrotechnic devices, especially for children and those with respiratory illnesses." Liverpool Football Club Paul Cathir, vice president of stadium operations, added: "We hope our supporters will enjoy this wonderful moment and celebrate our 20th league championship victory through the city streets, but we also hope it is safe. We have seen young children suffer burns from using pyrotechnic devices, so we have taken a responsible attitude with our city partners to emphasize the dangers of these devices. Everyone at the club wants a safe parade that everyone can enjoy and see the joy on their faces as the victory bus passes through the city. Let's turn this day into a memorable day for all participants."
