Kompany avoids talking about Boateng incident: sports aspect is the focus today

Hupu News on October 26, Bundesliga: Bayern defeated Monchengladbach 3-0 and won 13 consecutive victories in all competitions in the new season. After the game, Bayern coach Vincent Kompany attended the press conference.

First of all, congratulations on your victory and congratulations to the team on their best start to the season in the history of European football. I think this result is very impressive. But what I don’t quite understand is Bayern’s handling of Jérôme Boateng. Can you confirm that Boateng's "practical training" at Bayern has come to nothing? Should the team have anticipated such strong backlash from fans?

This question is quite clever. Let’s talk about the game first. The sports aspect is the focus today.

Could you please summarize this game from your own perspective? What do you want to say about the 3-0 result?

Well, the first half of the game was full of excitement. We faced a Borussia team that fought for every ball and even limited our one-on-one attacking players at certain moments. The occurrence of red cards may also have certain emotional factors, which is inevitable in the game.

But it must be fair to say that the reaction of the fans at the scene was special. They cheered for every fight and applauded the goalkeeper's wonderful saves. Based on my own game experience, what we did right was staying calm at all times and not panicking even when there was a yellow card warning.

I immediately made adjustments at halftime because we needed to calm down a little bit. What we did well in the second half was frequently changing sides and maintaining the offensive rhythm. Sooner or later, the opponent would run out of energy, and we also seized the opportunity. This is the reason why we were able to score in the second half.

Mr. Kompany, I would like to ask you another question. You seemed to have emphasized before the game that you would never underestimate Gladbach because you have been through a relegation battle (formerly coaching Burnley). What impressed you deeply during that relegation experience and have you applied it to your coaching career?

For me, as a coach, the most important thing at this stage of the season - and what I've learned - is for the players to believe 100% that they can win the game every Friday and Saturday. If you do this, you're doing a lot of things right. Then just wait for the opportunity to appear, such as a forward scoring a goal, a defender completing a key defense, and that's it.

This is not a suggestion, just my personal experience. What I learned is that the hardest thing is to always have this 100% belief that no matter who we play, we can win. And what Borussia showed in the first half today was precisely this belief. As long as there is fire in your heart, there will always be a chance. This is my experience.

But both coaches and players can continue to improve, and this process will not stop. Especially at this stage, the rate of improvement will be even faster than when everything is going smoothly. This is one of the reasons why I respect this job so much, because I experienced it myself.

I would like to ask about Leonard Carr again. He has scored wonderful goals in two consecutive games. How will you continue to develop him? How will his appearance be arranged in the future?

Momentum is important not only for the team, but also for individual players. He's now scored two games in a row, which is great for boosting his confidence. But know that you can’t build a career on confidence alone, confidence can come and go.

The cornerstone of a career is the accumulation of experience and objective understanding. You must constantly reflect on what you can do better in the game and what advantages you need to maintain.

So when the praise comes - and every player at Bayern has experienced it - the key is to allow him to keep working hard in calm surroundings. Even if criticism comes later, keep the same mentality and Lenny won't have a problem.
