Manchester United s five-point plan to return to the peak: a roadmap from valley bottom to revival
This season is the bottom of Manchester United, but there is every reason to be a "year of progress" for the club in the 2025-26 season. If Victor Thorpe had not offside in the 120th minute of Wembley, Manchester United might have already fired Tenhager after that shameful defeat against the English Championship Coventry, rather than waiting until the next morning. Last season's FA Cup championship seemed brilliant, but it became a long-term hidden danger. Sir Jim Ratcliff shook his determination to change coaches because of this victory, leaving Tenhager behind, which eventually led to a loss of 18 Premier League games this season and a complete missed European competition next season. Manchester United's wallet will be hit hard: poor bonuses for the Premier League, no European war income, zero Champions League match-day income, plus the penalty clause in Adidas' contract - a financial black hole totaling about £80 million. They wasted nearly £1.5 million to fire Tenhager, hire and fire Dan Asheworth, and the 200 million pounds of signing funds that Tenhager spent in the last transfer window. Manchester United needs to be completely overturned today. Although there is no risk of downgrading (never really threatened), it has fallen to freezing point. Next season, Amorin has full training of players without European games, plenty of game intervals, and a strong motivation to avoid repeating the same mistakes. The following are five plans to help Manchester United return to the peak: 1. Less pragmatism and more proactive attacks Amorin has always struggled between "pragmatism" and "active", but in Bilbao, he has not done both. Garnacho was refrigerated, but Mason Mount "favored" the starter because of his coach - although the latter's goal threat was far less than the former. Manchester United has submitted a blank sheet for the 16th time this season. Some people criticized Mount for "limited contributions to holding the ball", but Amorin refuted that Garnacho missed a one-on-one in the semi-finals, and Mount helped secure the victory after he came on the court. But the fact is: Mount only scored three goals in two games, and none of them played the game; Garnacho had started 14 consecutive games before the match against West Ham United, but was placed on the bench in Chelsea and the finals. When playing against Tottenham, Manchester United's midfielder exposed a fatal problem: playing with a fullback. Mazlawi admitted last week that he was more adaptable to the right centre-back (the closest to the fullback) than the offensive winger, leaving Tottenham's left-handed Udoji almost unthreatened. Before the March international match day, Fernandez seemed to be transformed into the core of the midfield, but was pushed to the front line after the league restarted. In the final, although midfield control is required, if he is the team's top scorer, he should have appeared in the forward trident. Next season, Mazravi should be fixed as a central defender and introduce the right wing to upgrade. Amorin used an orthodox winger when he was in Portugal sports, but now he relies on full-backs - although he has invested £25 million for Danish left-back Dorkgu (forced to start in the finals because no one is available). 2. A compromise with young players Garnacho is becoming a problem for Manchester United. Like Rashford back then, he began to develop a sense of "privileges": he publicly criticized the "bad" season, questioned the coach's decision, and suggested the possibility of leaving the team, and his brother added fuel to the fire online. The authority of the head coach must be maintained, but Garnacho's situation is special. Since the Manchester City Derby was out of the roster on December 15 last year, both sides have worked hard to repair the relationship, and Amorin has also confirmed his progress. As a few players who are still loved by fans, Garnacho sparked cheers when he warmed up at San Mames and caused a roar when he came on the bench. In the second leg of the semifinals, he even attended the pre-match press conference side by side with Amorin. Manchester United is famous for training wingers, and Garnacho is one of the most successful cases in youth training this century. But the problem is: he is out of place with Amorin's system, and new aid Cunia (the front midfielder) may occupy his position. Napoli was interested in Garnacho as early as January, believing that he could replace Kvaratskhelia, and Conte (Napoli coach) once created Hazard's peak season - such recognition deserves Manchester United's vigilance. The parties need to sit down and resolve the differences, which also applies to Kobe Maynu, the "future core" at the beginning of the season, has lost its main position, and Amorin tried to transform it into a shadow striker/forward but the effect was uneven. If two people are sold this summer, it is tantamount to gambling - especially considering that Manchester United may change their coach in the fall. Keeping Amorin, Garnacho and Menu is the safer foundation for reconstruction, although Garnacho's brother claims that he was "taken by the blame." 3. Sign up for the club, not for the coach, if fans are allowed to choose between Draper and Giokirez, most people will choose the latter. Although Giokirez is less competitive in the league, he is older and more proven (with the test), and Manchester United is well aware of the risks of hoarding "non-five league players". But Manchester United chose Drapp, and the pressure was transferred to technical director Wilcox - after all, he had witnessed Drapp's growth at Manchester City's youth training, and Ratcliff praised him for having "the most keen eye in football". No eligibility for European competition will seriously affect the signing. The termination clause between Cunha and Delapp seems to be a "shortcut", but Delapp is only four days younger than Hoylund, and Manchester United's goal difference this season -12 - the striker's position cannot be compromised. Last year, Manchester United pursued the signing strategy of "one coach and one board of directors": Tenhag signed Ajax's old subordinates, and the board of directors signed a Ligue 1 player. Yoro's joining should have opened a new era of signings, but he signed Dutch Zilkzee. Dorgu and Hawen introduced in the winter window hinted at the direction of signing this summer. But what the worst lineup in 51 requires is immediate combat power, especially when Fernandez may go to Saudi Arabia. 4. Establishing a "sellable culture" Manchester United will inevitably have players who are "hard to deal with". For example, Luke Shaw questioned whether he "worthy Manchester United" in the mixed zone - we all know the answer, and he should also be clear. But he will not leave the team voluntarily two years before the contract expires. If the offer is right, anyone can sell it—especially after such a season. This includes Garnacho and Menu: if they want to change the environment, they should be allowed. In 2018, Mourinho said he would not stop Martial who wanted to leave the team, but Woodward forced himself to keep people. Until March this year, Ratcliffe was still criticizing the practice. Manchester United has allowed too many players to serve "extra-term", such as Martial, Shaw and Lindelof. Financial fairness rules affect the length of the contract, but Manchester United should no longer provide a five-year contract at will - short contracts can keep players at a sense of crisis. Amorin's contract is only two years away, and his test is far ahead of 2027. 5. Management needs someone to take responsibility Dave Brellsford has long won Ratcliff's trust, but two years after Inex's entry, no one can explain the role of the "bike director" on the football board. Brellsford admitted that he was "non-football expert", and Manchester United's results were the result of his "participation in decision-making". He was an ally of Ashworth, and Manchester United took a long time to poach Ashworth, who served only five months. Ratcliffe should fire Brellsford to show the outside world Ineos' determination to end Manchester United's decline.
