Premier League CEO talks about Semeyo incident: This is a social problem and should not happen on the court

Hupu, August 17th News Earlier, Premier League CEO Richard Masters talked about Bournemouth player Antoine Semeyo's racial abuse in the season opener against Liverpool.

He said: "No Premier League player should be subjected to such abuse in the workplace or on the Internet.

"We must continue to reiterate this. We have provided support to Antoine, and so are others.

"I think everyone can see that the relevant procedures were implemented and had an impact last night.

"Once Antoine explained to the referee what happened, Anthony Taylor suspended the game, communicated with the coaches of the two teams, and communicated directly with the security officer of the court.

"This allows them to identify the person involved and take them out of the venue, and as far as I understand, the person has been detained by the police. That's how it should be handled.

"This is a social problem, it penetrates into football, but it should not happen on the football field, nor on the Internet.

"This also makes football managers like me think twice before thinking about what else can be done to ensure no similar incidents will happen in the future."
