The former top five-star high school student will represent the Rockets in the Summer United. Is this his last chance?
The Houston Rockets officially announced the roster of players participating in the next Las Vegas Summer League, including former NBA player Kennedy Chandler. Candler was born in September 2002 and is 22 years old, 183cm tall and weighs 78kg. He is the backcourt star selected by the Memphis Grizzlies in the 38th pick in the second round in the 2022 NBA Draft. Chandler has made 36 appearances for the Grizzlies in his rookie season, averaging 7.8 minutes per game, averaging 2.2 points, 1.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.3 steals, 0.1 blocks, and 0.5 turnovers and 0.4 fouls. However, before the season's playoffs began, the team was seriously short of people in the inside position, and Kenneth Lofton Jr., who was holding a two-way contract, performed quite eye-catchingly, so the Grizzlies finally chose to cut Chandler. Since then, Chandler has never returned to the NBA. In recent seasons, Chandler has also been working hard in the NBA Development League. Chandler played for the Brooklyn Nets’ subordinate team, the Long Island Nets, in the 2023-24 season, and played for the Toronto Raptors’ subordinate team, the Raptors 905 last season. In the NBA Development League last season, Chandler played 50 games in total, averaging 24.1 minutes per game, averaging 13.1 points, 2.8 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 1.3 steals, 0.3 blocks, and 1.9 turnovers and 1.9 fouls. He shot 48% from the field, 36% from three-point shooting percentage and 65.1% from free throws. Chandler's performance in the NBA Development League is sloppy, and he still shows good passing and organizational skills, and he also has certain scoring abilities. However, he doesn't play much time, and he is not the team's starter, which also leads to his relatively average data. Candler has been participating in the NBA Summer League games these seasons, but as a player who has played for many years in the NBA and NBA Development League, Chandler's performance can only be considered a tepid level. For Chandler, if he wants to return to the NBA in the future, he must seize the opportunity to prove his ability. If nothing unexpected happens, Chandler should also get a lot of playing time in the summer league, and he also has the opportunity to exert his abilities. I don’t know what he will perform in the summer league, and whether he can win the trust of the Rockets or other team uniforms through his own efforts. In fact, Chandler was once a young player who was highly anticipated by everyone. He is the top five-star high school student in the 2021 class. However, his development is a huge gap with Paulo Banchero, Chet Holmgren and Jabari Smith Jr.. I don't know if Chandler can seize the last chance.
