Koscielny: Wenger s work at Arsenal is exemplary, Arteta s success not surprising
On November 21, former Arsenal central defender Koscielny was interviewed by the Guardian, in which he talked about his Arsenal period, Wenger and Arteta-related topics. About Wenger Koscielny views Wenger's work at Arsenal as a model to emulate. He said: "In those 23 years, he succeeded in developing every aspect of the club: not only the performance on the pitch, but also the culture, finance and infrastructure." About the many former Arsenal players who are now in management Koscielny pointed out that it is no coincidence that so many of his former Arsenal teammates are now in management and director roles. "I think he has successfully passed on Wenger's experience and we are continuing his legacy in terms of everything Wenger taught us." About Arteta Arteta's success as Arsenal manager comes as no surprise to Koscielny. "As a player, Arteta is very thoughtful; he has the ability to solve problems through communication and positional awareness. He is also full of energy, which is still the case on the sidelines. He experiences the game wholeheartedly and transfers his energy to the players." About former partner Mertesacker Koscielny still maintains contact with relevant people at Arsenal, especially his former defense partner and current youth training director Per Mertesacker. "I communicate with Mertesacker regularly. We talk about young players, we talk about recruitment, and we talk about things outside football." Koscielny said their relationship on and off the field is what contributes to their defensive partnership's success. "I also felt this with Gabriel and Saliba. They work well with each other and understand each other's strengths and weaknesses." About unhappy departure from Arsenal Koscielny's departure was also made unhappy by a promotional video released by Bordeaux, in which he took off his Arsenal shirt to reveal his new club's jersey. "I understand the fans' reaction to that video. It was not my idea and I apologized afterwards. I have always respected the club and the fans. I grew as a player and as a person during the time I spent there. I have a special affection for the club and the city where my children were born. I would have given everything for the club, on and off the field."
