The deals before the draft this year have been much more frequent than in the past few years. Compared with the deals between Bain and Durant, the deal between the Wizards and the Pelicans is more like a small fight. The deal specifically was that the Wizards traded Jordan Poole, Sadiq Bay and this year's No. 40 pick to exchange CJ McCollum, Kelly Olynick and a future second round from the Pelicans.

Wizards get McCollum, Olynik and the future second round

From the Wizards' perspective, they can analyze this deal from two aspects.

First point, as experienced veterans in the league, McCollum, Smart, Middleton and others can serve as mentors to the Wizards.

The second and most important point. This deal can give Wizards great flexibility in future cap space. Poole's contract has two years left, while McCollum has only one year left, which allows the Wizards to free up about $100 million in salary space next year. Among the Wizards' players, only Kispert has a guaranteed contract next year, and others will either expire or be within the rookie contract period.

And they can also trade McCollum, Smart, Olynick and Middleton for more draft assets before next season's trading deadline. By next year, the Wizards can serve as a middleman to accept inferior contracts and continue to increase their draft assets. With the promulgation of the new labor agreement, assets will become increasingly important in the future.

The Pelicans won Poole, Sadiq Bay and the No. 40th pick this year. I personally don't know why the Pelicans used Poole to replace McCollum. Although Poole's form has recovered a little this season, averaging 20.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game, which is similar to McCollum. But Poole's form is extremely unstable, and even in his best season as a Warriors, his performance is always good and bad. And Poole's contract is bigger and longer than McCollum's.

The only acceptable reason is Poole's attendance rate is high, Poole missed 14 games last season, but a few of them were at the end of the season, when the Wizards didn't have to let him play. In addition, he missed only eight games in the first three seasons. Due to injuries this season, the Pelicans do need players who can continue to stay on the court, and Murray and Zion will be absent for a while after the start of next season, and they need someone to contribute on the court.

After Murray and Zion return, Poole can partner with Murray in the backcourt, which can open up space for Zion and can also partner with Trey Murphy well. It's just that if Zion is still in the Pelicans' future plans, it will be an expensive team. Murray, Zion, Poole and Murphy account for about $160 million of the team's salary space.
