Good news, Warriors rumours: Draymond Green s trade is not considered offseason
The Warriors will continue to work on retaining their veteran star core, meaning they are unlikely to give up Draymond Green.
Golden State Warriors remain committed to retaining their veteran star cores Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler III. So it's not surprising if they choose not to give up on Green during the offseason.
The Warriors lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in five matches in the Western Conference semi-finals, ending the 2024-25 season. Curry missed the game at the time and he was strained in the first half of the first game. Although it was a first-degree strain, the injury was severe enough to allow him to miss the remaining series.
Golden State Warriors will seek to reorganize the roster during the offseason. However, according to insider Brett Segal, this will not involve trading Green.
"The only situation in which Green could be traded is that he went to Dunleavy and Lacob and asked for a trade. Sources said this would not happen and Draymond was not going to play for another team without Stephen," Siegel reported.
"Looking forward to the 2025-26 season, this team is positioned around Curry, Butler and Green. In the offseason, we won't consider trading Butler or Green, which is contrary to the idea that a superstar like Giannis Antetokounmpo or Kevin Durant can be obtained through trades."
Draymond Green and the Warriors' future direction
Apparently, the Warriors want to maximize their remaining performance while Stephen Curry and Draymond Green remain efficient. The signing of Jimmy Butler III in February is an important signal.
However, Curry's joining the Timberwolves exposed a major problem facing the Warriors. His absence shows that the Warriors lack players who can score stably and cannot effectively suppress the Minnesota Timberwolves' defense. While it is understandable that the team struggles with the offensive core aside, it is reasonable for them to chase a steady scorer in the free agent market.
Green's defense is still efficient and can occasionally contribute high scores. However, if the Golden State Warriors are looking to return to the top before Curry and Green decide to end their careers, they must use this offseason time to equip their core star lineup with the best supporting roles.
