Haslem: When I couldn’t get Whiteside’s rebound, I had thoughts of retiring
Hupu, November 10th: Udonis Haslem recently talked about the "it's time to retire" moment in his career on the show, but he joked that after that, he actually played for another seven years. Haslem recalled: "That was about the time we signed Hassan Whiteside. I thought to myself: 'No way, he will never take away my playing time.' And then I found out that he could grab the basket without his feet taking off the ground! I couldn't grab his rebound at all. At that moment I knew - 'It's time to retire. '" Although he had the idea of retiring at that time, Haslem continued to stick with the Heat and became the spiritual leader of the team's locker room until his 20-year NBA player career officially ended in 2023.
