Which team controls the locker room better? Evaluation of the three Lakers coaches Vogelham and Redick

The locker room atmosphere is an indispensable component of a team, and even determines the team's cohesion, execution and resilience in adversity.

A good locker room atmosphere can coordinate conflicts, boost morale, stabilize military morale, and even allow the team to perform beyond normal performance.

So what is the level of the locker room of the Lakers' first three coaches Vogel, Hamm and Redick?

1. Vogel

Vogel’s key words are two: enlightened and vulnerable.

He is a typical academic coach. He does good deeds and convinces others with his virtue. He listens to the opinions of assistant coaches, players and management. Therefore, all the players who work with him have good evaluations of him, and they feel like they have been refreshed. The united locker room atmosphere of the 20-year Lakers is a typical example.

But his fatal flaw is his weakness. He cannot speak hard words in front of others, and he seems helpless against thorny players or strong players.

He was able to take over the job of Lakers coach because he was relatively weak. The strong Monty and Tyronn Lue could not accept the interference of the Lakers management in the team.

His shortcomings caused him to stumble in the next two seasons.

Pelinka's "starting commitment" to Schroeder and Drummond in the 21st season has caused him to be constrained in his employment and even unable to arrange his favorite lineup.

Vogel's DNP Zhuang Shen could only be realized in G6 of the playoffs when the team was facing elimination.

After the Westbrook trade in the 22 season, the powerful Westbrook was at odds with him, and the lake management interfered with him, so he had nothing to do against Westbrook.

He once DNPed Westbrook at a critical moment, but it caused Westbrook to rebound strongly and the relationship between the two broke down.

That season was a humiliating failure, and he was dismissed sadly.

Vogel's locker room level is there, but he needs a good locker room assistant coach mix, and preferably also locker room leaders like Dudley and Danny Green to assist.

2. Hamm

Hamm’s locker room style is obviously different from Vogel’s. He is good at using both soft and hard tactics, as well as kindness and power.

Many people say that he is a chicken soup type coach, but he is really not. Chicken soup is just a means. He has an extremely strong side.

As soon as he joined the team, he fancied Westbrook, claiming that he could make good use of Westbrook, and praised Westbrook's defensive level. But before the preseason ended, Westbrook was put on the bench.

The heat was just right. Westbrook expressed his dissatisfaction, but to no avail.

Westbrook's situation at that time was far worse than last season. During the offseason, the Lakers kept asking for his price, such as Hield/Turner, Conley/Boyang/Vanderbilt, etc.

So Westbrook can only swallow his anger.

When the season reached 0.58, Westbrook was traded away, in which Ham played a major role.

Another thing Hamm did well in the 23rd season was to clean up Rambis' influence in the locker room, so that the coaching staff could be free from management interference.

However, in the 24th season, Hamm's locker room level fell to the Mariana Trench.

To put it bluntly, Hamm's mere tactics are not enough. His shortcomings in coaching are undoubtedly exposed.

In the 2024 season, more than a dozen starting sets were changed, Russell, Reaves, and Rui Hachimura were put on the bench, and an unheard-of starting lineup of five forwards was established. The team's record plummeted.

Many players have never seen this style of play. The lineup is chaotic and they don’t like calling timeouts and challenges. This has caused strong dissatisfaction among many players, especially Russell, Reeves and Rui Hachimura. Stars James and Nongmei also expressed their dissatisfaction in public.

All of this led to a locker room crisis in the team.

For Hamm, what made matters worse was that he succumbed to the players and brought Russell, Reeves, and Rui Hachimura back into the starting lineup, and the team's record fully recovered.

This means that his coaching authority is gone, the locker room is completely out of control, and Suses is dismissed from get out of class sadly.

Ham is still the same Hamm, still using both kindness and power, but his coaching level makes him unable to control the locker room.

3. Redick

Even though Redick is a rookie coach, his style is more powerful.

Russell couldn't play well, so Redick put him on the bench and didn't give him a chance to return to the starting lineup, which eventually led to the Lakers trading him.

Knecht did not move according to his requirements, and he completely DNP'd him in the next ten games after the regular season and in the playoffs.

This kind of Thunder method did not make the locker room lose control. The root cause is Redick's ability to produce goods in the regular season.

The team's record is third in the Western Conference, and the fancy tactics he drew also convinced the players. Mistakes made during the regular season can be corrected in time.

Even if the performance in the playoffs fell significantly, the Lakers management and Lakers players still did not lose confidence in them.

It has to be said that Redick does have a skill in the locker room.

Of course, the new season is still a challenge, it depends on his level.
